Antique Green Glazed Amphora with Lid

€340.00
Sold

A truly unique antique amphora made in the mid to late 1800s in Puglia, with a distinctive top glaze in iridescent green. Remarkably the amphora still has its accompanying lid, which is rare for a piece of its age. Along with the elegant, elongated proportions of the handles, this traditional piece has a lot of character due to the unique glaze set against the earthy ochre-coloured base as well as the makers thumb prints as a decorative mark round the mid section of the vase. This terracotta amphora has seen over 150 years of service to its family - historically used to hold wine, water or oil, and naturally shows some charming signs of age. This historical example would make the perfect decorative centre piece in any home.

Found in Taurisano

a small town in southern Salento.

Dimensions: H45cm x W27cm x D25cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
