Antique Hand Painted Bird Bowl
This large, antique bowl features a very charming hand painted design with a central bird motif. Dating back to the 1800s, the elegantly designed bowl showcases the skill and attention to detail of the artisan/potter. What makes this piece stand out is the central bird design and the abstract pattern around the rim of the hand thrown bowl, giving it a modern aesthetic. The colours used are vibrant in the glossy glaze with blue, yellow and ochre brown set against the milky-hued base. The old pottery from southern Italy is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade feel. The well loved piece shows its characteristic signs of age with a wonderful patina brought about from years of daily use. This deep bowl would have taken pride of place in a family home and today would make a lovely addition to a table setting, as decorative display or a great centrepiece for fruit.
