A charmingly rustic antique ceramic vase with handles and abstract hand painted motif representing the sea and land adorning both sides. The spirited surface decoration in pastel colours across the body and rim of the fluted spout is set against a well loved ivory patina. This unique vase or jug called ‘cuccume’ in the neighbouring region of Calabria, was originally used for storing food in olive oil, or liquids, and dates back to the 1800s. With its distinctive two symmetrical handles, pinched spout and spherical body, it has an organic surface which has eroded beautifully over time. Today, this large handmade piece would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or decorative display item to inject some farmhouse charm into any space or home.

Found in Lecce

the Baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: H38cm x W26cm x D21cm
