Antique Rustic Glaze Confit Pot
An antique confit pot with two elegant handles and spherical body. This pot was made in the early 1900s and was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil. This type of ceramic is commonly called ‘robba bianca’ in southern Italy, and features a buttermilk glaze at the top (for hygiene purposes, so the the rim and handles could be easily wiped clean) and is set against the raw earthy clay, that lends a rustic farmhouse character. Today it would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece.
Found in Lecce
the capital of the Salento famous for its baroque architecture.
Dimensions: H29cm x W23cm x D19cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration.
