This antique piece is a unique example of confit pots of the region - with its abstract hand painted tree of life motif in a vivid turquoise blue. The spirited decoration is set against a buttermilk glaze and traditionally signifies good fortune and longevity. Dating back to the early 1900s, the hand thrown pot was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil and would have been in domestic use up until the 1950s/60s. Today, it would make a lovely storage vessels for paint brushes or utensils in the kitchen, or simply as a decorative display piece.
