Antique Two Handle 'Righe & Stelle' Vase
An antique hand-thrown vase with the hand painted floral motif that is a symbol of the Puglia region, known as ‘righe e stelle’. The design is particular to Grottaglie, a town famed for its age-old ceramic craft, where circles are combined to create rosettes or star formations. Since the 1800s the flowers were made with stencils, originally cut from sponges. This vase dating back to the late 1800s, was primarily ornamental, placed on the mantle piece of the family home and often gifted to newly weds. The charming piece with has a well-loved patina with the graphic flower motif and stripes in ink blue, set against a buttermilk base.
