Antique White Speckle Glaze Vasetto
An antique confit pot with a unique white speckled glaze, two handles and an elegant form. This vasetto was made in the early 1900s and originates from the southern Italian region of Puglia. It was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil or brine. What makes this piece unique is the white glaze with speckled black which ‘decorates’ the surface, giving it a fresh, contemporary aesthetic. The charming antique pot is fully glazed internally and almost entirely glazed externally, with the raw clay visible at the bottom. The hand thrown vase features that magical patina brought about authentically by the passing of time and years of daily use. Today, the antique vessel would be ideal as a vase for fresh or dried flowers, perfect to add some country charm to any home or space.
Found in Ostuni
the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as the la città bianca (or ‘white city’).
Dimensions: H29.5cm x W23.5cm x D19.5cm
