Antique Yellow Glaze Anchovy Pot
This antique anchovy pot dating back to the early 1900s was originally used for preserving food such as anchovies or sardines in olive oil. The vasetti or vases were often topped with a wooden lid or linen cloth tied with rope to keep insects out and are commonly associated with the Grottaglie region of Puglia, known for its age old ceramic craft. This pot differs from other confit pots due to its vivacious mustard yellow glaze that renders it a one of a kind piece. The hand thrown pot with its charming patina would make an ideal vase, storage or decorative display piece, injecting some country charm to any home or space.
