Antique Yellow Stripe Plant Pot
A unique piece of pottery dating back to the late 1800s from the Pugliese town of Terlizzi, known for its age old ceramic tradition. This vessel was traditionally used as a confit pot to preserve food like olives, artichokes or other vegetables in olive oil or brine. It would have been topped with a wooden lid to keep insects out. The hand thrown pot has transitioned over time and has been repurposed into a plan pot with a hole at the bottom for drainage. The vessel has the charming yellow-hued stripe around the upper edge set against the mustard glaze - which is typical of ceramics from Terlizzi. The original piece with its magical patina from years of daily use, would be ideal as a planter or storage vessel, injecting some farmhouse charm to any home or space.
Found in Ostuni
the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as la città bianca (or ‘white city’).
Dimensions: H19cm x W16cm x D16cm
