A large antique 4-handle confit pot originating from the southern Italian region of Calabria. Dating back to the mid-1800s, the farmhouse pot was originally used for storing a family’s most valuable food in olive oil. This rustic pot in a thick robust clay features 4 handles so the contents could be transported or moved easily. The large hand-thrown pot also has a decorative scalloped detailing around the opening to contain dripping/spillage of olive oil. Remnants of its ochre glaze can be seen around the rim and the 4 handles. The outer surface is raw with a natural texture and features that magical patina brought about authentically by daily use and the passing of time. The charmingly rustic pot is a unique historic example of domestic Calabrese pottery, and would make a perfect centre piece in any home, indoors or out.
