Large Antique Yellow Glaze Jug

€185.00

A charming antique jug dating back to the mid-1800s and hailing from the southern Italian region of Puglia. This large hand thrown jug has a half glaze in a vibrant yellow hue that gives way to the raw terracotta base. The half glaze was primarily functional, as opposed to decorative, so that it could be easily wiped clean from drippings and spills. The antique jug has a well-loved patina that is testament to its daily use, where it was originally used as a vessel for wine at mealtimes. It has a beautiful shape that highlights the handmade quality of the vessel. The unique piece is a particularly rare find with its matching smaller jug as seen in the images, ideal to create an impactful display. Today the jug would be perfect as vase or simply as a decorative display piece to inject some country charm into any home or space.

Found in Ostuni

the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as la città bianca (or ‘white city’).

Dimensions: H30cm x W18cm x D17cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
