Large Vintage Confit Pot
Vintage hand thrown confit pot known as a ‘salataru’ in local Pugliese dialect and dating back to the first half of last century. The rustic piece was originally used for preserving food in salt brine, such as olives, anchovies or sardines. This type of rural ceramic pottery was typically only partially glazed (at the rim or upper edge for hygiene purposes) as it was expensive to glaze the entire pot. This charming pot has a unique, organic surface which has eroded beautifully over time, with its earthy top glaze in ochre, set against the raw clay base. Add some rustic farmhouse character to any space with this large rustic pot, which is ideal as a vase for fresh flowers, or simply as a decorative display piece.
Found in Lecce
the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.
Dimensions: H31cm x W22cm x D22cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
