S Antique Crinkle Edge 'Fiore' Bowl
A very charming hand painted antique bowl typical of Pugliese ceramics. Dating back to the late 1800s, the small rustic bowl features the crinkle cut edge and blue floral motif that is a symbol of the Puglia region. The design is particular to Grottaglie, a town famed for its age-old ceramic craft, where circles are combined to create rosettes or star formations. Since the 1800s the flowers were made with stencils, originally cut from sponges. The old stoneware from Puglia, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel. The well loved piece shows its characteristic signs of age with a wonderful patina, and would have been regularly used for domestic purposes up until at least the mid 1900s. This piece would make a lovely addition to the kitchen or table setting, especially when teamed with the matching vase and jug, as seen in the images.
