Small Antique Green Marble Glaze Jug
An antique handmade ceramic jug with a mesmerising marbled glaze. Originally used to hold wine or water, this small jug dates back to the early 1900s. The marbling in various shades of pistachio green, dark brown and black, is common to pottery from Grottaglie, a town in southern Puglia known for its age old ceramic craft and tradition. This elegantly formed jug is most likely associated with Michele Smaltino, an artist and ceramicist from Grottaglie and one of the first students of the School of Art, who then ran an important ceramic workshop in the town for over 35 years. This one-of-a-kind ceramic piece would be perfect to create an impactful display with the matching marble-glaze jugs, as seen in the images.
