Antique 3-Handle Partial Glaze Confit Pot
A large antique confit pot with 3 handles from the southern Italian region of Calabria. This imposing piece dates back to the 1800s and was originally used for preserving foods in olive oil. Its contents would have been scooped out with a ladle and covered with a linen cloth or wooden lid. This handmade confit pot is unique due to its large size and proportion as well as its sculptural form and organic, textural surface. The charmingly rustic pot is glazed internally with a partial glaze in ochre around the lip and handles that has eroded over time. For economic purposes these pots were usually glazed internally and left raw externally, with the ochre lip glaze added for hygienic purposes so it could be wiped clean after use. It has that magical patina that comes about authentically from a long life span and many years of use as a domestic vessel. Add some rustic farmhouse charm to your home or outdoor space with this hand thrown piece. Create impact with the matching antique vessels as seen in the images.
