Antique 3-Handle Terracotta Confit Pot
A large antique confit pot with 3 handles that hails from the southern Italian region of Calabria and dates back to the late 1800s. The Calabrese confit pot was originally used for preserving foods in olive oil, its contents would have been scooped out with a ladle and covered with a linen cloth or wooden lid. What makes this vessel extra special is the hand decorated wave-like detail around the top half and its ridged handles. Striking in its earthy simplicity, this confit pot has a wonderful sculptural form highlighting its handmade quality and an organic, unglazed surface. It has that magical patina that comes about authentically from a long life span and many years of use as a domestic vessel. Add some rustic farmhouse charm to your home or outdoor space with this hand thrown piece.
