Antique Abstract Hand Painted Jug
A charmingly rustic, hand painted jug historically used for wine or water, in a characteristic design (the pinched spout) - which is typical of the Pugliese town of San Pietro in Lama. Made in the early 1900s, this large hand thrown jug is decorated with a cobalt blue, merlot red and chocolate brown, on a cream slip glazed base. The abstract hand-painted effect (also typical of the region) - is perhaps a local potter’s interpretation of art deco, considering the period it was made - and gives the pitcher a delightful energy and spontaneity. It’s the ideal vessel for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece.
Found in San Pietro in Lama
the small town in Puglia famous for its ceramic craft.
Dimensions: H26cm x W18cm x D15cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
