Antique Abstract Hand Painted Jug
A vivacious jug from Sicily with a uniquely abstract hand painted design. This antique piece dating back to the late 1800s was originally used for wine or water and would have taken pride of place in a family home. Its rotund shape and elegant form and handle, are characteristic of pottery from Caltagirone, a Sicilian town renowned for its age old ceramic craft. The colours make this piece a showstopper - bold black outlines creating abstract shapes in pastel turquoise, sunflower yellow and sea blue. Today this antique vessel would make a lovely decorative display piece, especially when teamed with the matching vase as seen in the images.
Found in Lecce
the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.
Dimensions: H19cm x W21cm x D16cm
