Antique Blue Glaze Confit Pot
An antique confit pot with two ridged handles and a wonderful pastel blue lip glaze that renders it particularly unique. This handmade pot dating back to the late 1800s, originates from Calvello, a town in Basilicata known for its age old ceramic craft. The rustic piece called a ‘salaturu’ was originally used for preserving food in salt brine, such as olives, anchovies or sardines. This type of rural ceramic pottery was typically only partially glazed (at the rim for hygiene purposes) as it was expensive to glaze the entire pot. Add some rustic farmhouse character to your home or space with the other matching pieces as seen in the images. This antique pot would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece especially as a set to create impact.
Found in Ostuni
the charming hilltop town of the valle d’Itria known as la città bianca (or ‘white city’).
Dimensions: H28cm x W22cm x D21cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
