Antique 'Evil Eye' Jug
An antique hand-thrown jug with a lovely floral motif and eyes that are hand painted to ward off evil, rendering it particularly unique. Wine and water jugs from Puglia usually have the most extensive decorations and this one dates back to the late 1800s, with its lovely form, spout and handle that set it apart as a particular piece. With its unique surface texture and glaze, the decorative splashes of varying hues of blue, mustard and ochre are set against an ivory base. Today, this wonderful piece with its truly one of a kind pattern would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece.
Found in Martina Franca
a hilltop town in the Valle d’Itria known for its Baroque splendour.
