Antique Fleur-de-Lis Apothecary Jug
A rare terracotta apothecary jug with a unique form and hand painted fleur-de-lis or lily design. This antique piece dating back to the mid 1800s was originally used to store medicinal preparations and concoctions. The design is characteristic of pottery from the Italian region of Tuscany, synonymous as the official symbol of the city of Florence, as well as the Medici family. The antique vessel features the hand painted fleur de lis pattern in blue on the main body, with a floral design on the handle, and stripes that border the rim and base of the small jug, set against the glossy white base. It has an elegant form, along with a patina brought about authentically from years of daily use and the passing of time. There is also a marking at the bottom as seen in the images.
