Antique Green Glaze Bottiglia
A one-of-a-kind hand-thrown ceramic ‘bottle’ dating back to the late 1800s. This rare piece has a half glaze in pistachio green and and was used to hold wine or olive oil. Called a ‘buttija’ in local dialect, it originates from the southern Pugliese town of Grottaglie, known for its age-old ceramic craft and tradition. This antique vessel has an elegant form with banding around the top edge to contain spills, and retains a hand crafted feel with the glaze giving way to the raw clay at the base. The hand thrown vessel has developed a beautiful patina from daily use and the passing of time. This collectable bottle would be ideal as a bud vase or as a decorative display piece to inject colour into any home or space, especially when pared with the matching vase as seen in the images.
Found in Lecce
the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.
Dimensions: H24cm x W15cm x D15cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration.
