Antique Green Glaze Fluted Vase
An antique hand-thrown vase with a mesmerisingly iridescent green glaze, set against an earthy ochre base. Dating back to the mid 1800s, this perfectly formed vessel with its uniquely fluted spout was originally used to hold Holy Water. With its elegant form and deep green glaze, it has a gothic quality that sets it apart from the utility pieces of the region, and highlights the skill of the artisan/maker. The half glaze was used for hygienic purposes (to be wiped clean after use) rather than simply decorative, and was a less expensive method than glazing the entire pot. Today, this wonderful piece would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece to inject colour into any home or space.
Found in Ostuni
the charming hilltop town in the Valle d’Itria known as 'la città bianca’ (or white city).
Dimensions: H27.5cm x W21cm x D21cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
