Antique Green Glaze Yeast Pot with Lid
A unique green glaze pot with lid and two side handles that originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria. Dating back to the 1800s, this large historic example would have been originally used for storing the all important mother yeast for a family. The hand thrown ceramic vessel has a beautifully iridescent deep green glaze which makes it particularly rare and differs to the Pugliese version (with its splattered green effect). Its wonderful robust form and thick terracotta is quintessential of old Calabrese pottery. Today, this antique piece would make a wonderful decorative display piece or storage vessel, injecting some country charm to any home or space.
Found in Ostuni
the enchanting hill top town of the valle d’Itria known as ‘la città bianca’ (or white city).
Dimensions: H28cm x W23cm x D21cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
