Antique Green Plate with Scalloped Edge 2
This hand crafted antique plate with an all-over green glaze is a rare piece dating back to the late 1800s. The rustic plate originates from Grottaglie - a town in southern Puglia known for its ceramic craft and tradition. Also available is a matching green glazed plate as seen in the images, these side plates were used for olives or typical local products such as lampascioni (aromatic and slightly bitter edible bulbs similar to small onions). What makes this plate unique is the gently scalloped edge and its iridescent glaze in a deep green. The old terracotta pottery from Puglia, like this plate, has a lovely handmade, rustic feel and would have been used primarily for everyday, domestic use. This antique plate would make a lovely addition to any kitchen or table setting, injecting a pop of colour and some genuine farmhouse charm.
