Antique Green Rimmed Confit Pot
An antique, handmade confit pot with an elegant spherical body and two ridged handles. The large rustic pot has a wonderful iridescent green glaze that rims the upper edge, as well as splashes of ochre around the body set against the raw clay base, adding unique character and spontaneity to the piece. This confit pot originates from the southern Italian region of Puglia and was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil. This type of rural ceramic pottery was typically only partially glazed (at the rim for hygiene purposes) as it was expensive to glaze the entire pot. Lend some rustic farmhouse character to your home or space with this vessel, ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or simply as a decorative display piece.
Found in Ostuni
the charming hilltop town of the Valle d’Itria known as ‘la città bianca’ (or white city).
Dimensions: H31.5cm x W26.5cm x D26.5cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration.
