Antique Green Splatter Vasetto
This antique and rare piece of pottery was originally used to store herbs and spices and ointments for medicinal purposes. The hand thrown piece dating back to the 1800s, is called a ‘vasettu ti spezzeria’ (herb jar) in local dialect and originates from Grottaglie, Puglia. Although the form is typical of antique pharmacy jars, the surface glaze is unique. Its splatter of pistachio green set against a buttermilk colour base creating an abstract effect and rendering it modern in aesthetic. The wonderful colour combination, and hand crafted quality, give this vessel infinite charm. The vase has a well-loved patina made all the more charming through its erosion and evolution from years of use. Today this vessel would make a lovely vase for fresh flowers adding a splash of colour to any home or space.
