A large antique hand-thrown jug from Puglia that is truly a one of a kind piece. The large jug dates back to the late 1800s and originates from Grottaglie, a town famed for its age-old ceramic craft. What makes this antique vessel particularly unique is the flower motif, originally hand applied with stencils cut from sponges or potato skins to create the floral effect. Wine and water jugs from Puglia usually have the most extensive decorations, this one comes in a typical local shape with its pinched spout. The large jug features two hand painted lines across the rim and floral motif on the main body, both in soft blue, and set against a buttermilk glaze. Today, this antique jug would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece.

Found in Lecce

the capital and baroque jewel of the Salento.

Dimensions: H25cm x W16cm x D13cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration.
