This rare piece of pottery with its hand painted abstract motif dates back to the 1700s and originates from the central Italian town of Orvieto in Umbria. The antique carinated bowl or cup was originally used for drinking wine during religious ceremonies. The hand thrown disc shaped bowl features ear shape handles and a unique design in turquoise blue, accentuated by black linear and hatched patterns, and set against the white base. The ceramic bowl is also glazed externally with a turquoise stripe around the outer rim. A very collectable handmade piece, it would make a lovely addition to any kitchen or table setting, especially when pared with the matching hand painted bowls as seen in the images.
