A large serving bowl with a unique hand decorated design hailing from Calabria. The antique bowl features a free-spirited hand painted motif in vivid green that is common to the southern Italian region (Italy’s toe). Dating back to the late 1800s, the designs are typically very simple with green circular motifs and abstract patterns that decorated crockery used for everyday life. The old clay pottery from Calabria is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel. This hand thrown bowl would have been primarily used for domestic use - as a vessel to wash fruit and vegetables, also as serving bowl during family mealtimes. It has that magical patina brought about authentically from daily use and the passing of time. Today, the large farmhouse bowl would make a lovely decorative display item or a great centrepiece. Add some country charm with the matching ceramic passata bowls from Puglia, as seen in the images.

Found in Lecce

the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: H11cm x W30cm x D30cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
