Antique Hand Painted Calabrese Vase
A charmingly rustic ceramic vase with handles and abstract hand painted motif representing nature. The spirited surface decoration in pastel green across the body on both sides as well as the rim of the fluted spout, is set against a well loved ivory patina. This unique vase or jug called ‘cuccume’ in the neighbouring region of Calabria, was originally used for storing food in olive oil, or liquids, and dates back to the 1800s. With its distinctive two symmetrical handles, pinched spout and spherical body, the antique vessel has an organic surface which has eroded beautifully over time. Today, this large hand thrown piece would be ideal as a vase for fresh flowers or decorative display item to inject some farmhouse charm into any space or home.
