Antique Hand Painted Pot with Lid
A charming antique ceramic pot that dates back to the early 1900s and originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria. This storage pot would have been primarily used for storing foods including capers or the family’s mother yeast. It features a hole on the top of the lid to allow the contents to ‘breathe’. The abstract hand painted lines in pastel green and yellow are set against a soft buttermilk glaze, and are reminiscent of spring time and the promise of a bountiful harvest. This handmade piece of pottery with its well-loved patina has an elegant form with its one handle and rotund shape. It is a rare find particularly coming with its intact lid. The antique pot would be ideal as a decorative display piece or storage vessel. Create an impactful display with the matching two-handle pot as seen in the images.
