Antique Hand Painted Rustic Vasetto
An antique and rare piece of pottery with its unique hand painted design, originating from the southern Italian region of Calabria and dates back to the mid 1800s. Originally this hand thrown vessel would have been used for preserving a family’s most valued food such as anchovies, sardines, figs, eggplants, artichokes or olives in brine or olive oil. The one of a kind vasetto features an elegant form and undulating handles, as well as an abstract all-over motif that gives the piece a modern aesthetic. The colour combination of pistachio green circular patterns and ochre brown lines, set against a buttermilk-hue base, make it versatile enough to sit effortlessly in any space. The charming piece has that magical patina from years of daily use, that only the passing of time can authentically create. Today, this one of a kind vase would be ideal for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece to add some country charm to a home or space.
