Antique Hand Painted Terracotta Bowl
An antique hand painted bowl with a design characteristic of plates and bowls from the southern-most regions of Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria. This terracotta bowl which dates back to the late 1800s, features a decorative sponge-effect design in turquoise green set against an ivory glaze. Often this decorative element, commonly seen on local pottery, was created using potato skins ‘as paint brushes’ and dabbed onto the outer edges of the stoneware. The charming, farmhouse-style piece has a robust handmade quality, common to domestic pottery of the region. Perfectly imperfect, the bowl has a charming patina brought about authentically by years of daily use and the passing of time. This hand thrown bowl is the perfect piece to inject some country charm to any home or space, especially when pared with the larger bowl as seen in the images.
Found in Lecce
the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.
Dimensions: H5cm x W20.5cm x D20.5cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
