Antique Iridescent Glaze Pot with Lid
A unique and beautifully formed hand thrown terracotta pot from Puglia. The iridescent black glaze and 3-D florets are particular to the small Salento town of Lucugnano. The southern Pugliese town is known for its age old ceramic craft whose decorative elements set it apart from other ceramics of the region. This antique piece dating back to the early 1900s features ‘stile Liberty’ (Italy’s art nouveau) detailing and would have been traditionally used for storing local delicacies. The pot features an iridescent all over glaze, an elegant form with a hand decorated pattern on the lid, sgraffito lines around the main body and wonderfully decorative handles. The piece is made all the more special coming with its original lid. Today this rustic pot would be ideal as a storage vessel or as a decorative display piece, especially when pared with the matching Lucugnano ceramics as seen in the images.
