Antique Iridescent Green Amphora

€130.00
Sold

An antique hand-thrown amphora with a mesmerising iridescent glaze and beautifully formed handles that are a fluid extension of the spout, rendering it truly unique. Originally used for wine or water to keep it fresh for farmers working the land on those hot, long summer days, the almost metallic green glaze was used for hygiene purposes to wipe clean and keep cool, rather than simply decorative. This original piece has a unique surface texture and wonderful patina from daily use. Today, it can be used as a bud vase or as a decorative display piece.

Found in Ostuni

the charming, white-washed, hill-top town in Puglia known as ‘città bianca’ (or white city)

Dimensions: H25cm x W17cm x D17cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
