A beautifully formed hand thrown ‘oliera’ (a bottle for olive oil with a spout) that dates back to the mid-1800s. Originating from Puglia and used to drizzle olive oil at meal times, it is also known as ‘srulu pi l’uegghju’ in local dialect. The luminous ivory-coloured glaze was common to local domestic pottery, especially with ceramics storing olive oil, food or wine. Called ‘robba bianca’ it represents the finest kind of ‘ceramica rustica’, and is produced with a pewter glaze and twice fired. This antique ceramic oliera is particularly unique due to its elongated, elegant form and soft buttermilk-hue glaze. It has that magical patina brought about by the passing of time and years of daily use. The antique jug is the ideal piece to inject some farmhouse charm to any home or space, especially when pared with the matching ceramics as seen in the images.

Found in Lecce

Dimensions: H29cm x W16cm x D15cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration.
