This antique and rare piece of pottery originates from the southern Italian region of Calabria and in particular the town of Seminara - famous for its age old ceramic tradition. The hand thrown vase dates back to the mid 1800s and features a fluted spout with scalloped edge, two wonderfully intertwined handles, raised floral and palm tree motifs on both sides, and an elegant form - all testament to the skill of the artist/potter. The one of a kind vase with its multi-colour glaze effect would have been used as a vase for flowers, and taken pride of place in a family home. The wonderful colour combination of pistachio green, mustard yellow, ochre brown, sea blue and creamy white, is typical of Seminara ceramics. This large, hand thrown vessel has a wonderful surface brought about from years of daily use - that magical patina that only the passing of time can bring. Today, this striking vase would be ideal as a vessel for fresh flowers or as a decorative display piece to add impact to any home or space.
