Antique Pastel Tree of Life Confit Pot

€260.00

This antique confit pot with two handles features an abstract tree of life in pastel hues adorning the front. This large hand thrown pot dates back to the mid 1800s and is typical of pottery from the southern Italian region of Calabria. The motif was hand painted on to ceramics of the region to bring good fortune and longevity to the largely rural folk of the time. Originally used for preserving the family’s most prized foods such as anchovies, sardines, artichokes, figs or olives in olive oil, often with a handmade wooden lid to keep out insects. The unique abstract tree of life design has been rendered in pastel green and yellow, and is glazed in a buttermilk hue both internally and externally. Today, the one of a kind handmade vessel would be ideal as a vase for fresh or dried flowers, or as a decorative display piece to add farmhouse charm to any home or space.

Found in Lecce

Dimensions: H37cm x W25cm x D24cm
