A very unique handmade vessel originating from the southern Italian region of Basilicata. Dating back to the mid 1800s, this antique vessel was historically used to hold olive oil. The thick and robust clay, echoing the landscape of the region, keeping its contents fresh. The rustic pot is particularly charming due to its pistachio green lip glaze and unique proportions, with four handles (two large ones and two smaller ones at the side). The handmade pot has a very organic surface with immense character, showing signs of its daily use over time. This type of rural pottery was typically only partially glazed (here at the rim for hygiene purposes, so it could be wiped clean after use) as it was expensive to glaze the entire pot. Inject some country charm to your home or space with this historic example, or create an impactful display when pared with the similar farmhouse pots as seen in the images.

Found in Grottaglie

the small Pugliese town famous for its age-old ceramic craft.

Dimensions: H33cm x W30cm x D26cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
