Antique Rustic Amphora
An antique hand-thrown amphora with a beautifully formed robust body and handles that are a fluid extension of the spout. Originally used for wine or water to keep it fresh for farmers working the land on those long, hot summer days, the mustard yellow glaze on top was used for hygiene purposes to wipe clean, rather than simply decorative. This original piece has a raw surface texture and patina from daily use, with the hand painted motif just visible on both sides of the terracotta amphora as you can see in the close-up images. Today, it can be used as a bud vase or as a decorative display piece.
Found in Lecce
the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.
Dimensions: H30cm x W23cm x D22cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
