Antique Rustic Pharmacy Jar
This antique hand painted pharmacy jar was historically used for storing and preserving herbs, ointments, powders and liquids, in a characteristic design, common to the southern Italian region of Calabria. Dating back to the 1800s, this jar was found as part of a set (as seen in the images) and is a particularly rare example of ceramic apothecary jars. The hand thrown terracotta piece is decorated with blue lines encircling the upper edge, which are set against an ivory glaze. The wonderful patina is consistent with age and use and shows signs of wear, which gives this antique piece its immense character. It would be ideal as a decorative display piece to add some charm to any home or space, and would create an impactful display when paired with the matching pharmacy jars as seen in the images.
