Antique Rustic 'Righe & Stelle' Bowl
A very charming hand painted bowl typical of Pugliese ceramics. Dating back to the late 1800s, the blue floral design or ‘righe & stelle’ pattern around the internal bowl, set against the soft buttermilk glaze, is characteristic of Grottaglie - a town famous for its age-old ceramic craft. The old terracotta pottery from Puglia, is thick and robust, and has a lovely handmade, rustic feel. The well loved piece shows its characteristic signs of age with a wonderful patina, and was used for domestic use up until the mid 1900s, and specifically to serve a family during meal times. This piece would make a lovely addition to the kitchen, as decorative display or a centrepiece on a table for fruit, especially when teamed with the matching plates as seen in the images.
