Antique Rustic Terracotta Jug

€170.00
Sold

An antique hand-thrown jug with an elegant form that is perfectly balanced with its deceptively simple, primitive aesthetic. The thick terracotta jug was originally used by farmers to keep the wine (or water) fresh whilst working the land on those long, hot summer days. This utility drinking flask features a lovely ochre glaze around the top part revealing the earthy, raw clay at the base with its characterful patina. The top glaze was there purely for hygiene purposes, so it could be wiped clean after use, not as a decorative addition. Testament to its good design, today it would make a unique display piece to compliment any home, from modern spaces to rustic, farmhouse styles.

Found in Lecce

the baroque jewel and capital of the Salento.

Dimensions: H32cm x W16cm x D15cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
