Antique Terracotta Wine Flask

€150.00
Sold

An antique terracotta wine flask historically used by famers on the field, in a characteristic ochre glaze typical of the Puglia region. The spherical shape of the body and the spout, as well as the spirited hand decorated glaze, renders this piece as truly unique. The wonderful patina is consistent with age and use and shows signs of wear, which gives the piece its immense character. The shape of the spout indicates that there was a rope handle attached - so farmers on the land could easily drink from on those long, hot summer days. Today it would work beautifully as a bud vase or decorative display piece in any home.

Found in Ostuni

the charming hilltop town in the Valle d’Itria known as the città bianca or ‘white city’.

Dimensions: H40cm x W18cm x D18cm

These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
