A particularly rare amphora with a hand painted tree of life decoration adorning the front and a unique raised relief running down both sides. Originating from the southern Italian region of Calabria, these motifs of vegetation were often abstract and used on ceramics of all kinds and were applied to bring good fortune and longevity. The 3-D ripple effect has been created by the makers thumb highlighting its hand crafted quality. This wonderful antique example dates back to the mid 1800s and would have been originally used for holding wine. Today the rustic piece would add impact to any home or space, injecting some country charm.
