Large Bi-colour Pugliese Orcio
An antique ‘capasone’ or ‘orcio’ made in the early 1900s, found as part of a noble family’s collection in their palazzo in Grottaglie. With its distinctive mustard glaze, elegant proportions and unique handles, and a wonderfully aged patina to the terracotta, this large amphora has an abundance of character. The rich contrast colours of the ochre and mustard adds to its personality as well. The terracotta orcio has seen over 100 years of service to its noble family - and was originally used to hold wine, water or oil, and naturally shows some charming signs of age. A beautiful and historic example, with its aged characteristics adding to its beauty, would make the perfect outdoor centre piece on a terrace or garden.
Found in Grottagle
the small town in Puglia famous for its ceramic craft.
Dimensions: H77cm x W43cm x D43cm
These are handmade antique ceramics that are perfectly imperfect and some have been used for generations, so please expect some cracks, and chips, and discolouration. These individual characteristics are part of the charm and unique quality of each piece. Please note, colour may vary from screen to screen.
