This antique confit pot with its wonderfully spirited hand painted tree of life motif originates from Calabria, Italy. Typical to the southern Italian region, this pot is particularly rare due to the uniqueness of the mustard colour of the tree of life (which is usually depicted in green). The abstract motif signifies good fortune and longevity, designed with the hopes of a bountiful harvest bringing prosperity to the rural folk. This antique pot dates back to the mid 1800s and was originally used for preserving foods such as anchovies, sardines, figs or olives in olive oil. Today, this charmingly rustic piece would make an ideal vase, storage vessel or simply as a decorative display piece. Create an impactful display with the matching (smaller) pot as seen in the photos.
