Large Antique Rustic Terracotta Bowl
This large terracotta serving bowl from Calabria dates back to the late 1800s, and features a minimal yet spirited hand painted design in verdant green. The old terracotta pottery from southern Italy is thick and robust, with that unmistakable handmade feel. Despite the abstract patterns that decorated this and other antique crockery from the region, the bowls were domestic items, used for everyday life. The internal bowl is glazed in a buttermilk-hue whilst the outer surface is mostly raw and on display. This rustic bowl features that special patina that only the passing of time and daily use can authentically bring about. Today, the antique bowl would make a great table centrepiece or fruit bowl, injecting some southern Italian charm to your kitchen or dining space. Perfect when pared with the matching farmhouse bowls from Calabria as seen in the images.
Found in Squillace
