Large Antique Drip Glaze Bottiglia
A large hand-thrown ceramic bottle in a luminous ochre and black colour and unique drip glaze decorating the surface. Dating back to the early 1900s the bottiglia originates from Grottaglie a small town in southern Puglia known for its age old ceramic craft and tradition. Found as part of a collection of a noble family in Puglia, the antique ceramic decanter was originally most likely used to hold wine, or possibly olive oil. The large vessel has an elegant spherical body with ridges at the top and unusually stout base so it would not topple over. This truly unique piece with its distinctive pattern and colour would be ideal as a vase or as a decorative display piece, adding some farmhouse charm to your home or space.
